Who: Readiness and Emergency Management for Schools Technical Assistance (REMS TA)
Details of the webinar:
The REMS TA Center hosted a Webinar to highlight the role of Information Technology (IT) Specialists in supporting school safety efforts at the local and state levels. During this Webinar, presenters discussed the importance of developing a collaborative planning team to support emergency operations plan development, as outlined in Step 1 of the six-step planning process detailed in the Guide for Developing High-Quality School Emergency Operations Plans. Presenters also shared information on the role that IT Specialists play in supporting the National Preparedness System mission areas — prevention, protection, mitigation, response, and recovery — as well as their role in the before, during, and after phases of a potential emergency.
Presenters for this Webinar were Ross Lemke, Director for the U.S. Department of Education, Student Privacy Policy Office, PTAC; Mike Tassey, Data Security Advisor for the U.S. Department of Education, Student Privacy Policy Office, PTAC; Alex Rodriguez, Emergency Operations Specialist for the Rialto Unified School District; and Candace Ferguson, Training and Technical Assistance Senior Research Associate at the REMS TA Center. The presentation concluded with a question-and-answer session.
The U.S. Department of Education and its REMS TA Center hosted this Webinar to provide K-12 schools, school districts, regional education agencies, and state education agencies, along with their community partners, with information on how to collaborate with IT Specialists on emergency management planning. While the live Webinar offered opportunities to respond to individual and unique questions from stakeholders and practitioners, the archived Webinar serves as a resource to help education agencies collaborate with IT Specialists on safety, security, emergency management, and preparedness activities.
